Abby Crum, KPA-CTP
DOG TRAINER AT PAW COMMONS SCOTTSDALE
Abby is a Lead Trainer at Paw Commons. She has been a professional trainer since 2021 and has nearly two decades of hands-on animal handling and care dating back to 2006. Starting as a veterinary kennel tech, she then went into wildlife management and rescue, before becoming an alligator handler. She eventually found a love for Dog Training after rescuing a reactive dog named Eddie. Working Edie through the reactivity inspired Abby to officially change career paths, focusing primarily on canines and the quality of life she could provide through training.
Abby is a Certified Dog Trainer through Karen Pryor Academy, studying under respected professionals including Terry Ryan and Ken Ramirez. She specializes in reactive, high-prey, and high-drive dogs, bringing deep experience and confidence to complex behavior cases. Her approach emphasizes giving animals as much agency as possible, respecting their boundaries, and tailoring enrichment and training to each individual dog in front of her.
Abby is passionate about helping animals and their humans live more harmonious lives by building understanding, trust, and communication. She believes in meeting every dog where they are, using education and empathy to create progress that lasts.
Outside of work, Abby enjoys dog sports, photography, cryptozoology, spending time outdoors, wrestling, and horror. She shares her life with two dogs: Eddie, a affectionate “velcro” Gun Dog mix who lives for ball and hugs, and Harley, a high-drive terrier mix who excels in sports like Barn Hunt, Earth Dog, Scentwork, and Rally.
